If you are thinking of leading and looking for some tips read on!
1) A variety of distances and difficulties is a great idea but be clear in your walk description
2) Prefer to start small? Help new walkers feel comfortable about trying something new by leading an introductory walk. Our Friday walks cater to those who prefer shorter, easier routes so this may be a good place to start.
3) Think about accessibility and parking
4) If you can, start more walks in locations accessible by public transport as it allows different people to attend and is environmentally friendly.
5) Check out walking books and local parish walk leaflets. These provide great ideas in themselves and can be used as a basis if you want a shorter or longer walk than that suggested
6). AllTrails is a useful web source for walk planning
7) Chat to walkers about the types of walks they would like to see and don't hesitate to use your own favourite walks. If you like them chances are others will to!
8) speak to other leaders about what they look for when planning
9) Make sure you do a recce! It is never a good thing to find a closed path or get lost when leading so best to check out that route! There will always be people to help you recce - just ask
10) Bit nervous about map reading? We provide navigation days for our members and they are a fantastic way to get to grips with the basics. We are also planning walk leader training so keep a look out for that.
